WayForward, the developer of games such as DuckTales: Remastered and Shantae: The Half-Genie Hero, announced today via Twitter that it is working on a new game called The Mummy Demastered. One screenshot has been released thus far, depicting a game that features crisp pixel art and what appears to be Contra-like, or perhaps even Metal Slug-like, gameplay. According to a press release from Universal Brand Development, the game follows “an elite Prodigium agent who is tasked to take down Princess Ahmanet’s army of the undead and save the world at any cost.” Throughout their journey to take down said army, players will “explore dark forests, maze-like military compounds, and the sandstorm-filled streets of London.”
The Mummy Demastered is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. It is scheduled to launch in “late August.”
The Mummy Demastered is one of three games based on The Mummy that are set to be released in the near future, including a location-based VR game called The Mummy Prodigium Strike, which is being made by Starbreeze Studios, and an episodic adventure game for mobile devices called The Mummy Dark Universe Stories, which is being made by Oxenfree developer Night School Studio. More information about these titles can be found in the aforementioned press release.
