Today’s Releases (9/5/2017): Don’t Knock Twice, World War II Online

Today is Tuesday, September 5th, and it’s time for another edition of Today’s Releases. Whereas yesterday was filled with Early Access releases, there are quite a few less today.

Don’t Knock Twice

Wales Interactive’s VR horror game based on an urban legend of “a vengeful, demonic witch,” Don’t Knock Twice, was released today. The game features a massive “grand manor” to explore and try to “find and save your daughter.” Along the way, you will need to find “hidden clues” and either fight or run from various enemies.

Don’t Knock Twice is now available on Steam and the PlayStation Store for $19.99. It is discounted to $15.99 for the first two weeks of release, but only PlayStation Plus members can purchase the PlayStation 4 version at the discounted rate.

World War II Online

The Steam version of the long-running World War II-themed MMOFPS World War II Online has been “coming soon” for years, but, at long last, the game finally launched on Steam Early Access earlier today. The game offers players a chance to take part in a massively multiplayer war across a 300,000 km² world. It also boasts an emphasis on realism.

The game is expected to be in Early Access for around 6 months, during which time the team will “make changes and improvements to gameplay and infrastructure.”

World War II Online is now available on Steam Early Access as a free-to-play game. Free accounts are somewhat limited; to get the full experience, you will need to pay for a Premium subscription. However, everyone that signs up will get a two-week Premium subscription free.

Star Story: The Horizon Escape

Evil Corporation Games’ turn-based adventure game/text RPG hybrid Star Story: The Horizon Escape officially left Early Access today. The game boasts a nonlinear story with 24 different endings that are defined by the choices you make, turn-based battles, puzzles, weapon crafting, research, and more. It follows a player character that has crash landed on a planet while on an “archaeological research mission” and must escape somehow.

Star Story: The Horizon Escape is now available on Steam for $14.99.

Red Obsidian Remnant

Red Obsidian Studio’s action roguelike Red Obsidian Remnant left Early Access and officially launched today. The game boasts fast-paced gameplay in which you can use up to three weapons at once, alternating between them in battle. There is also a system that augments monsters’ stats as you play, increasing their strength.

Red Obsidian Remnant is now available on Steam for $8.99.

Chinese Paladin 4

Softstar Technology’s long-running Chinese RPG series Chinese Paladin, also known as The Legend of Sword and Fairy, has made its debut on Steam with the release of Chinese Paladin 4. The game follows a man named Yun Tianhe, who sets out to learn more about his parents’ past with a woman named Han Liangsha, a member of a clan of tomb raiders who he met when she was trying to break into his parents’ tomb. The game is a prequel of sorts to the third game in the series, which is not yet available on Steam.

Chinese Paladin 4 is now available on Steam for $5.99. Unfortunately, it is only available in Simplified Chinese.

Clad In Iron: Gulf of Mexico 1864

Totem Games’ latest ironclad-based naval tactics game, Clad In Iron: Gulf of Mexico 1864, was released earlier today. The game takes place in an alternate version of the American Civil War in which Britain, France, and Spain joined together to “deal a preemptive blow to the United States,” ultimately defending the Confederacy from the so-called “Northern aggression.” It seems to be an unofficial part of the company’s Ironclads series, featuring the slightest change in name.

Clad In Iron: Gulf of Mexico 1864 is now available on Steam for $9.99.

AMPLITUDE: A Visual Novel

Ceylon Entertainment’s AMPLITUDE: A Visual Novel was released today. The game follows a man named Adam or a woman named Eve, who is murdered. They then make a “dubious deal” with an “otherworldly girl” so that they can take revenge on their murderer, taking control of either a man named Jon or a woman named Katy in the process. The visual novel boasts five endings to the main story, an additional twelve “character route endings,” crafting, a “messaging system,” quests, stat raising elements, and more.

AMPLITUDE: A Visual Novel is now available on Steam for $10.99.

Occult RERaise

Occult RERaise is the latest game in the Arcane Raise universe. It is said to be a “survival spin-off” of the main series, eschewing story for a high level of difficulty. The game was built in Smile Game Builder and, much like previous entries in the series, it appears to use a lot of stock assets. Reviews of the previous games have not been kind.

Occult RERaise is now available on Steam for $5.99, temporarily discounted to $4.97 for the week of release. DLC characters are available for $2.99 each, temporarily discounted to $2.69 for the week of release. A Deluxe Edition containing the game and all DLC characters is also available for $35.89, temporarily discounted to $10.79 for the week of release.
