It’s time for another Today’s Releases. Today is Thursday, September 21st, and it is yet another great day for indie game releases. Let’s take a look at what launched today, shall we?
Heat Signature, the latest game from Gunpoint developer Suspicious Developments, was released today. The game tasks players with breaking into randomly generated spaceships and taking part in real-time pausable gunfights. Their ultimate goal of the game is to liberate as many space stations as they can from “the empires that control them.”
Heat Signature is now available on Steam for $14.99.
XING: The Land Beyond
White Lotus Interactive’s Myst-like first-person puzzle adventure officially launched today. The game lets players venture into the afterlife, solve puzzles, and follow “forgotten stories.” It focuses on environmental puzzles and even lets players control the weather.
XING: The Land Beyond is now available on Steam for $19.99.
Stray Fawn Studio’s hex-based turn-based genetics survival game Niche officially left Early Access today. The game tasks players with creating a species that can survive anything using over 100 genes and a breeding system based on real genetics. If their species goes extinct, the game ends and they must start anew.
Niche is now available on Steam for $17.99, temporarily discounted to $16.19 for the week of release.
The Journey Down: Chapter Three
The third and final chapter of SkyGoblin’s Afro-Caribbean-inspired adventure game series, The Journey Down, was released today. The series’ final chapter takes players into the Underland, where they will uncover “the true nature of the Great Asili tree and the Armando Power Company.”
Terrible Toybox’s humorous adventure game Thimbleweed Park launched on Nintendo Switch today. The game tasks players with maybe solving a murder and some other mysteries in the town of Thimbleweed Park from the viewpoint of two federal agents, a “washed-up insult clown,” a game developer, and the ghost of a pillow salesman. It boasts a vast world waiting to be explored, puzzles waiting to be solved, and “a joke every 2 minutes.”
Thimbleweed Park is now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $19.99.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice
The previously Nintendo 3DS-exclusive sixth entry in the Ace Attorney series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, was released on Android and iOS today. In addition to all of the series’ classic gameplay elements, Spirit of Justice allows players to “freely explore 3D crime scenes for evidence,” gather information from witnesses, and find more evidence through forensic testing.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice is now available on Google Play for $19.99. The first chapter of the iOS version is now available on the App Store for $0.99, while the game’s other four chapters are available as in-app purchases.
Auto Age: Standoff
Rollers of the Realm developer Phantom Compass’ latest game, the team-based vehicular combat game Auto Age: Standoff, officially launched today. Described as “Twisted Metal meets G.I. Joe with realistic driving,” the game boasts more than 14 vehicles, more than 30 weapons and gadgets, and Death Match and Point Capture modes. Up to twelve players can take part in each match in both local and online multiplayer.

Fair Weather Studios’ turn-based strategy game Ancient Frontier was officially released today. A follow-up to its previous game Bladestar, the game tasks players with either defending the borders of the free people of the universe or joining the Alliance and “[struggling] for the cause of order at any cost.” It boasts a dynamic combat system that features “both initiative and turn-based combat,” large combat maps, more than 35 ships, Fire Emblem-style permadeath, resource management elements, and more.
Ancient Frontier is now available on Steam for $24.99, temporarily discounted to $18.74 for the week of release.
Holdfast: Nations At War
Anvil Game Studios’ massive Napoleonic Era shooter Holdfast: Nations At War officially entered Steam Early Access today. The game allows up to 125 players to battle it out in both the army and the navy, following orders that are given to them by higher-ranked players. The game also boasts a combat system that values skill above all else.
Holdfast: Nations At War is now available on Steam Early Access for $19.99.
QuantumSquid Interactive’s ARPG roguelike Pylon: Rogue left Early Access today. The game boasts procedurally generated levels, a variety of characters that have their own starting stats and abilities, items that get unlocked as you play, and more.
Pylon: Rogue is now available on Steam for $14.99, temporarily discounted to $12.74 for the week of release.
