Today’s Releases (9/1/2017): Songbringer, JCB Pioneer: Mars

Today marks the first day of a new month, which means that it’s also time for the first Today’s Releases of the month. This month seems to be starting off fairly strong. Let’s take a look at what was released today.

Wizard Fu Games’ beautiful procedurally generated Zelda-like Songbringer was officially released today. The game offers procedurally generated worlds based on a six-letter seed that players choose themselves. Each of these world features nine dungeons that might contain puzzles, side-quests that allow players to unlock new abilities, or even “overwhelmingly difficult foes.” The game even offers a cooperative mode that lets a friend take control of your AI companion Jib.

Songbringer is now available on Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store for $19.99. A PlayStation 4 version is set to launch on the PlayStation Store on September 5th.

JCB Pioneer: Mars

Atomicom’s Mars survival game JCB Pioneer: Mars has launched on Steam Early Access. Following behind established title Rokh, JCB Pioneer: Mars tasks players with surviving long enough to prepare Mars for colonization by the human race. It boasts “detailed high-definition graphics, vehicle physics, and weather effects.” The initial Early Access version does not include cooperative multiplayer, but it is stated that it is the “highest priority feature post-launch.”

JCB Pioneer: Mars is now available on Steam Early Access for $24.99, temporarily discounted to $22.49 for the week of release.

Greedy Guns

Greedy Guns is an amusing take on the classic run and gun formula. Inspired by games like Contra, Gunstar Heroes, and Metal Slug, it promises a challenging experience in which you must take out the enemies of HOLO CORP, a massive corporation that “values profit over ethics.” There are also some Metroidvania-esque exploration elements mixed in for good measure.

Greedy Guns is now available on Steam for $14.99, temporarily discounted to $12.74 for the week of release.

Card City Nights 2

Card City Nights 2, the sequel to Ludosity’s adventure game/card game hybrid, has officially been released. The game boasts card game gameplay in which you link your cards on the board to give them the power to “deal damage, heal, shield,” and so on; over 200 cards based on “the Ludosity universe”; odd locations, such as “dubious laboratories” and “lethal restaurants; and online multiplayer, a series first.

Card City Nights 2 is now available on Steam for $9.99.

Gravity Whale Games’ spaceBOUND, an insanely difficult cooperative puzzle platformer “set in a zero-gravity environment,” left Early Access earlier today. The game’s concept is similar in nature to that of Shiftlings; two characters are tethered to each other by an oxygen cable and must survive without getting killed or letting said oxygen cable get severed. I’ve played this a bit and it is quite challenging, in part due to its difficult-to-master physics.

spaceBOUND is now available on Steam for $9.99.

Age of Fear 3: The Legend

The third game in the wargame/RPG hybrid series Age of Fear, Age of Fear 3: The Legend, has officially launched on Steam. The game boasts improvements to the series’ core gameplay, permadeath, the ability to create your own world that can be shared via the Steam Workshop, among other features, and “one of the most advanced [AI systems] in the genre,” among other features.

Age of Fear 3: The Legend is now available on Steam for $19.99, temporarily discounted to $17.99 for the week of release.

Horse Beverages’ Ravager is an open-world 2D platformer set in a world that is inspired by Norse mythology. Players can play as any of twelve characters, each of which has its own upgradeable abilities. The goal of the game is to fight the “army of Crows and Trolls” that want to “unleash the Nidhoggr into the world.” To achieve their goal, players will have to go up against seven bosses.

Ravager is now available on Steam for $8.99, temporarily discounted to $8.09 for the week of release.

LampFire Collective’s fast-paced local multiplayer shooter was released earlier today. The game boasts a unique system in which players’ missiles leave trails in time and must be avoided.

SuperLuminauts is now available on Steam and for $9.99, temporarily discounted to $5.99 for the week of release.

Armitage Games’ medieval action-adventure game Bannerman was released on Steam late last night. The game boasts “challenging skill-based melee combat” that is based in “historical swordsmanship.” Players take on the role of a man-at-arms who is pursuing his lord’s banner across the land after it was lost.

Bannerman is now available on Steam for $14.99, temporarily discounted to $13.49 for the week of release.

Legends of Azulgar

The newly-revamped sandbox action RPG Legends of Azulgar was released on Steam Early Access late last night. The new version of the game features combat, ship building, ship customization, “basic base building,” and “basic roguelike survival play,” but is otherwise unfinished. A full list of upcoming features can be found here.

Legends of Azulgar is now available on Steam Early Access for $14.99, temporarily discounted to $8.99 until September 13th.
