The Pokémon Company announced during today’s Pokémon Direct presentation that Pokkén Tournament is headed to Switch on September 22nd as Pokkén Tournament DX. In addition to being able to play the Pokémon fighting game anywhere, the Switch version of the game will introduce a number of new features. Players will be able to play in a 3v3 Team Battle mode, as well as in an online Group Match mode. Daily Challenges will be offered and players will be able to watch replays of their matches and others’.
Pokkén Tournament DX will also include five new exclusive fighters, Croagunk, Darkrai, Decidueye, Empoleon, and Scizor, and two new exclusive Support Pokémon, Litten and Popplio. What’s more, players will be able to choose them from the get-go, as all of the game’s fighters or Support Pokémon will be unlocked from the moment they start playing.
I’m rather excited about Pokkén Tournament DX. The original Pokkén Tournament is one of my favorite fighting games of recent times, for the simple fact that it’s one of the most pure fun fighting games of recent times, and the Switch version seems to only be making it better. I’m definitely looking forward to checking out the new fighters, as well as taking part in Team Battles. The Switch port also ensures that we will likely be able to play the game online for some time to come, even if Nintendo decides to stop supporting the Wii U version.
