Back in June, WayForward announced The Mummy Demastered, a retro-styled Contra-like run-‘n-gun based on the most recent movie in The Mummy series. The game tasks players with taking on the role of “an elite Prodigium agent” and saving the world by taking down the army of undead that Princess Ahmanet has brought forth. Few details were available at the time, but its release was set for sometime in August.
Well, the August release didn’t happen and we went most of September without hearing anything, but today, Wayforward released a teaser trailer that finally shows off a little bit of gameplay. The game is a nonlinear “action-packed adventure” with a focus on “exploration-based adventuring” and it looks rather nice. The game appears to feature smooth run-‘n-gun action, impressive animations, a surprising amount of set pieces, and tons of enemies to fight. You can even hang from the ceiling and shoot down at enemies below.
An expanded synopsis of the game’s plot is as follows.
“As an elite agent in the monster-hunting Prodigium organization, you must use a variety of weapons, upgrades, and mysterious artifacts to defend mankind against the supernatural hordes of Princess Ahmanet. Your Prodigium unit is already on the scene, but HQ lost contact with them hours ago. Only by exploring tombs, forests, abandoned tunnels, and the cursed streets of London will you discover the fate of your allies. But beware – Ahmanet commands legions of undead, insects, plague-ridden vermin, and worse! If you’re not careful, you’ll be the next soul in her army.”
The Mummy Demastered is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One “soon.”
