Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launched on Nintendo Switch last Friday. The latest in the long-running Mario Kart series, the game brought the previously Wii U-exclusive entry Mario Kart 8 to Switch with all of the DLC included, as well as some new content and features. The Battle mode was completely revamped and players can now opt to play with Smart Steering and automatic acceleration, making it easier than ever for novices to play.
Nintendo announced today that Mario Kart Deluxe has taken the place of the fastest-selling Mario Kart game, dethroning the previous champion Mario Kart Wii. The digital and physical versions sold a combined 459,000 copies on day one alone, more than 25,000 more than Mario Kart Wii’s 433,900 day one sales. The high number of sales is even more significant, as it means that almost one in every two Nintendo Switch owners purchased a copy of the game on day one.
